Internship Hiring Process
There’s nothing wrong with asking questions and being honest about your current level of experience. As summer winds down, the world opens up, and we all try to regain some sense of “normal,” our ten-week internship here at Penguin Random House is quickly coming to an end. As the first interns to navigate this program virtually, we have all risen to the occasion, made necessary strides to soak up all that we could, and stayed connected with our teams through our computer screens at home. From drafting current event posts for Igloo to helping update the Social Impact site, I got to take a peek at the diligence and dedication that is exhibited across every department. If, for example, you aren’t familiar with the particular imprint of a role you’re applying for, search the company website for the genres and titles they publish.

We hope these posts have given you a glimpse into who our interns are and we hope you get the chance to reach out to an intern today. I’ve actually been taking my final requirement at university concurrently with this internship, so I’ll have graduated by the end of this internship, so…I HAVE NO IDEA. A challenge was remembering to step away from my phone/laptop and go outside. The job description is carefully crafted by the Hiring Manager(s) and Recruiter to find candidates that fit the needs of the role and will include what the key aspects of the position are. Use LinkedIn to connect with professionals at the companies and within the areas of publishing that you are interested in. Whether you attended the same school, live in the same town, or simply have the same interest in publishing, these shared experiences may bolster your connection with someone.

The second is seeing MY MOTHER, THE MERMAID CHASER come to life. This book was very personal to me as I related heavily to the plot and the characters. It’s my favorite book from Crown and I was honored to be able to work on it. I took on the scary journey of trying to make it into publishing and PRH is the publishing house to be at if you want to make it, that’s what a lot of people said as I scoured the internet for tips.

While I mainly focused on quality assurance, everyday brought something new to work. Penguin Random House offers paid, remote internship opportunities to learn about the world of book publishing. For those located outside of London, we can offer financial support with covering commuting costs for 2 days in the office per week and do not ask you to declare this until after the anonymous marking and selection process. If you’d like to come into the office more than this though, we’re unable to fund this.

But another reason is that I interned at Sourcebooks previously and had a wonderful time! I knew Sourcebooks and PRH have been working together so PRH was naturally the next step I wanted to take. My favorite part of being an intern at PRH is the chance to work with a diverse crowd of people who are open to sharing their stories.

Police had issued a tactical alert in the area earlier in the day, which was ultimately canceled. It's unclear if any arrests were made but Eyewitness News captured at least one person being detained. The campus was restricted to only students and staff and the few entrances that were left open required ID checks. "They rekindled it," said Elias Gerald, a USC student about Saturday's protest.
There’s a 900-column spreadsheet I use to note which pages of eBook documentation I’ve revised metadata, links, and more in. Once I’ve checked what I did the day before, I continue to edit pages and log my progress. The eBooks team has a number of weekly meetings to go over any issues or new developments, and so part of my day normally involves one or two of these meetings as well.
